You are invited to participate in a psychological intensive workshop dedicated to the theme of dreams and symbolic communication.
Workshop facilitators and group leaders are members of the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA):
Alice Brown, Jeffrey Price, Mikhail Bogomaz, William Watson
"A dream is never concerned with trivialities. We do not allow our sleep to be disturbed by trifles. Apparently innocent dreams can turn out, on careful investigation, to be quite the opposite; if a dream makes use of an innocuous idea as a hint, it is only a case of dissimulation."
Zigmund Freud

What do our dreams truly tell us?
-
Why do the images that emerge at night stay with us during the day—and how are they reflected in relationships, teams, and group dynamics?
A symbol helps to contain an emotion—to translate it into a form that can not only be experienced but also explored. Sometimes it speaks for us, before words even come into play. Just as infants express their feelings through cries, sighs, and movements, in a group we share our states through pauses, images, and bodily signals.
Over three days, we will learn to hear this language.
We will explore how the unconscious communicates with us through metaphors and fantasies—and what can happen when these images meet in the space of a group.
Topics of the intensive will include The Collective Unconscious and Shared Dreams in a Cultural Context.
We will discuss research on the world of dreams that unites people within a single culture, analyze which archetypes and symbols unite people during periods of crisis, and examine which recurring images and motifs reflect the collective fears and experiences of an era. Here, dreams will be considered not as individual phenomena, but as reflections of common social processes in large groups.

Alice Brown "What Do Dreams Mean". Dreams have been touted as the royal road to the unconscious and dismissed as merely the processing of the day’s residue. There are many schools of dream interpretation including processes to use in a group setting. This workshop will explore several different views on dream work, including the modern group approach, presenting different techniques for approaching dreams. A demonstration group will be utilized to illustrate modern group methods for dream analysis.

William H. Watson "Dreams, Images, Intuition and the Breakthrough of the Unconscious Mind". As we lower barriers to emotional contact with others in group, we also lower barriers to emotional experience within ourselves. In turn, increased attunement to self and other opens the gateway to intuitive emotional experience and the breakthrough of images and sensations which, if we allow it, make available to us new and deeper connections. In group, we seek to create an environment that encourages members to share all forms of their moment-to-moment experiences including images, body sensations, and "irrational" emotions. In doing so, we make room for our creative intuition, and the group's, to inform and guide us as we begin to dream while awake.

Mikhail Bogomaz "Life as a Dream". Affective Realism, a phenomenon where a person's emotional state influences their perception of reality. For psychologists and leaders, understanding affective realism is crucial as it directly impacts how people interpret situations, make decisions, and interact with one another.
-
Ekaterina Belokoskova-Mikhaylova "Dreams of Large Groups". Drawing from Charlotte Beradt's "The Third Reich of Dreams," we see that the dreams of individuals can act as a seismograph for the collective unconscious of a large group. Large groups can regress to a primitive mental state, forming a "group mind’. This phenomenon shows that the ideology of a large group penetrates the very fabric of the unconscious... We will also focus on the format of the "Social Dreaming Matrix" by Gordon Lawrence
